Construction exposed the garage door to a lot of dust and dirt. It never looked freshly painted.
We selected the paint color Sherwin Williams Inkwell, which is a black with dark blue undertone. However, due to all the dirt, the color looked like SW Iron Ore (which is a dark grey with slate undertone).
(oh and the house siding is SW Extra White)
Armed with the viral Instagram cleaning hack from the #CleaningArmy of @GoCleanCo: mixing a little Powdered Tide + HOT water.
I cleaned our garage door myself.
WOW! So satisfying
BEFORE AND AFTER
SUPPLY LIST
- 2 gallons of HOT water from kitchen sink
- 2 teaspoons of Powered Tide : $19.99 for 42 oz HE compatible
- bucket with measurement lines, pouring spout and handle: $24.28 (at time of post was on sale for $16.99)
- ladder or step stool if you can’t easily reach top of door
- “cleaning” towel/rag
- I tested using a scrub brush. It did not work as well.
TIP:
Refill the bucket with fresh HOT water + Powdered Tide a couple times and rinse the rag well! They will look nasty pretty quickly.
I refreshed the HOT water + Powdered Tide about 3 times per pass.
- I did 2 passes over the garage door. My husband suggests rinsing each column after scrubbing to help avoid the second pass. You could use a garden hose or power washer.
